Italy and Switzerland’s shared vision, to create the biggest ski resort possible, is now a certainty. It will allow visitors access to all ski lifts, but above all, it will allow tourists to move at higher altitudes between different ski areas and different towns.
A new chapter of ski tourism will start with the Alpine Crossing project: inaugurated in 2018 on the Klein Matterhorn in Switzerland, it will see the opening of the link with Testa Grigia, the Italian part of the Plateau Rosà glacier, in 2021.
The cable car will provide a new link between the ski resorts and will also be open in the summer for pedestrians. It will serve as a tourist link between Cervinia, Valtournenche and Zermatt for all visitors, not just skiers. The model has already been used by Skyway and the Mont Blanc to promote an increasingly broad mountain experience to include tourists visiting for reasons other than to ski.
It would be impossible not to grasp the importance of developing both towns, particularly for Cervinia and Valtournenche, which will be re-launched internationally into one of the most visited tourist areas in the world. The infrastructure will be the engine for a range of new services and tourist attractions, and for the resulting revaluation of the town, including from a real estate point of view.
The infrastructure is a shining example of ski lift innovation and technology: it is the highest three-station cable car in the world and is part of a programme that is constantly innovating and being invested in to meet the needs of an increasingly demanding, international tourist base.
