New mountain sports are a tourist attraction for the Aosta Valley

1 April 2020

The Aosta Valley is not only well-loved for its skiing and other winter sports, it is also one of the most popular destinations for mountain biking because of the range of trails it has to offer. The routes are especially popular because of their diverse features, from the simpler ones that offer beautiful views to families and enthusiasts, to the amazing Matterhorn Bike Park, which was designed to satisfy the downhill and gravity requirements of the most experienced riders.

Breuil-Cervinia is also home to the most famous international downhill mountain bike competition, the MaxiAvalanche, a thrilling challenge for 400 participants from all corners of the world who compete on a 12 km downhill trail through the glaciers of Plateau Rosà and the green pastures of Plan Maison.

As well as providing more difficult trails, the valley also attracts visitors with its new e-bike trails. These electric bicycles with pedal assistance allow even the most out of shape to explore unique corners of the valley in an ecofriendly way. Another picturesque route is the track that connects the Cime Bianche Laghi station to Cervinia Pan-Maison and the Matterhorn Bike Park: a gentle trail through alpine meadows, with possible marmot-spotting opportunities, culminating in a chance for bikers to admire their reflections in clear mountain lakes.

Various national and international cycling competitions have also shone light on Valtournenche in recent years, including the famous Giro della Valle d’Aosta and the pink-vested Giro D’Italia, with Cervinia serving as the finish on a number of occasions.

Mountains are the perfect natural setting, for tourists to professionals, to practise their favourite sports and for competitive sporting events. In this sense, the  Aosta Valley has proved its ability to go beyond its popularity for downhill skiing and mountaineering. This explains the growth in numbers of tourists visiting the region, including in the summer months, with an increase in hotel services and services for sports enthusiasts.

The tourism growth indicators have a clear impact on the value of real estate in the tourist areas, particularly in the most beautiful parts, which will undoubtedly see real estate values stabilise and a push towards revaluation in the coming years.
